Unmissable Romantic Restaurants

Because some meals become memories.

Some meals are more than just food — they’re stories, scenery, and shared silences.

In Madeira, romance isn’t only in the sunsets, it’s in the details: the table by the window, the local wine, the quiet sound of waves below.

This handpicked list brings together the most romantic restaurants across the island — from vineyard lunches with ocean views to cliffside dinners under the stars. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just want to fall in love with Madeira (or someone) all over again… these places are unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Villa Cipriani

Perched at the iconic Reid’s Palace, Villa Cipriani brings the heart of Italian cuisine to one of Madeira’s most scenic terraces. It’s made for sunset dinners and slow conversations.

From lobster tagliatelle to saffron risotto with ossobuco, every dish is served with elegance, warm service, and a wine list that elevates the evening.

Desarma

Sitting atop The Views Baía hotel, Desarma is Madeira’s newest Michelin-starred gem — and one that dares to be different. Led by Chef Octávio Freitas, it delivers a “battle of senses” with every dish, honouring local flavours in the most unexpected ways. From black scabbard roe to trout from Seixal, each plate is a tribute to Madeiran heritage, reinvented with elegance and precision.

Its sleek space — designed by Nini Andrade Silva — blends stone, copper, and natural textures, creating a calming contrast to the boldness on the plate. With open-kitchen theatre, panoramic views over the bay, and one of the best Madeira wine selections in the world.

Avista Restaurant

With its front-row seat to the Atlantic, Avista Restaurant & Lounges offers a dining experience shaped by scenery, flavour, and quiet sophistication. Overlooking Funchal’s coastline, this PortoBay gem blends Mediterranean and Asian influences in a space designed for sharing, celebrating, and savouring every moment.

Under the creative direction of Chef João Luz and Michelin-starred Chef Benoît Sinthon, the menu highlights seasonal ingredients, many sourced from the PortoBay garden. The result? Dishes full of colour, flavour, and intention. Whether you’re here for a slow lunch or an evening with the sun melting into the sea, Avista delivers a culinary journey that feels both elegant and effortless.

Il Gallo d’Oro

Il Gallo d’Oro isn’t just the most awarded restaurant on the island — it’s an experience that lingers long after the last course. With two Michelin stars and a Michelin Green Star for sustainability, this fine dining gem at The Cliff Bay Hotel offers a journey through Iberian-inspired cuisine with a Madeiran soul. Chef Benoît Sinthon’s tasting menus are crafted with seasonal produce from the hotel’s own garden, along with exceptional European ingredients.

The setting is as refined as the menu — think golden light, crisp linens, and a terrace overlooking the Atlantic. Every detail speaks of care, creativity, and calm sophistication. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or simply indulging in something unforgettable, Il Gallo d’Oro sets the bar for culinary excellence in Madeira.

William Restaurant

Fine Dining with a View

Quinta do Furão, located in Santana, is one of our absolute favourites in Madeira. It blends regional and international flavours in a cosy, welcoming setting — perfect for a slow lunch or a memorable dinner.

O Clássico

Restaurante Clássico is a local gem known for its honest food, ocean views, and down-to-earth atmosphere. Perched above the coast in western Funchal, it’s a favorite among Madeirans — and for good reason.

The chef blends traditional flavors with a creative touch, and their octopus rice has become somewhat of a legend. Whether you’re celebrating or just craving a soulful meal, Clássico delivers every time.

Galáxia Skyfood

Galáxia Skyfood, perched on the 16th floor of the Savoy Palace, offers one of the most breathtaking dining settings in Madeira. With panoramic views over Funchal Bay and the surrounding mountains, the experience begins long before the first course arrives.

Housed in the historic Fortaleza Nossa Senhora da Conceição, the Design Centre Nini Andrade Silva Restaurant blends bold aesthetics, local heritage, and sweeping 360° views of Funchal Bay. Once the home of navigator Gonçalves Zarco, today it’s one of Madeira’s most architecturally striking dining spots.

The menu reimagines Madeiran cuisine with Atlantic influences — refined, creative, and full of local flavour. With à la carte and tasting options (including vegetarian and vegan menus), it’s a place where design and gastronomy meet. A memorable setting for those who appreciate food with a sense of place and perspective.
