Monte Palace Tropical Garden is closed today, December 14, due to the fall of several trees following recent weather conditions. The closure is temporary and related to cleaning and safety works inside the garden.
The good news: the garden is scheduled to reopen tomorrow, December 15, once the cleanup is completed and all areas are safe for visitors.
Due to fallen trees inside the property, the management decided to close the garden for one day to carry out cleaning and preventive safety work. This is a precautionary measure and not a long-term closure.
Today is not a good day to visit Monte. In addition to the garden being closed, the Monte toboggan rides (carreiros do Monte) are also not operating today.
If Monte Palace was part of your plan, the best option is to move this visit to tomorrow, when both the garden and the surrounding attractions are expected to return to normal.
Monte remains fully accessible, and from December 15 onward the experience should be back to normal. If you’re planning to move around the island, flexibility makes a big difference.
As always, weather and conditions can vary quickly in Madeira — especially in higher areas like Monte.
We’ll update if there are any changes, but for now the reopening is confirmed for December 15.
